Article Writing - Anyone Can Do It, Right? Let's Cut Through The Hype And Lay Out The Facts

Did you know that writing articles for directories on the Internet is very different from how you learned to write papers in college? Heck, writing articles for directories on the Internet is very different from what you probably learned in high school.

Let's start with high school first, because that is where you were supposed to learn the basics of sentence structure and grammar.

I hear it all the time, anyone can do it, and you don't even have to know how to write. Many ads even go so far as to suggest that you can copy other people articles as long as you change just the right number of words.

To start with that is all crap! Here is the truth. Do you have to have perfect spelling, sentence structure and grammar? NO. Spelling should just about be a non-issue, because all word processors come with some kind of spell check.

The biggest problem I run into with spelling and spell checkers is improper use of the word, or a word that looks like it could spell the word that I want, but it just isn't the right word. Here is an example: argent and arrogant.

Yes, I know for those of you that can see the obvious difference, you probably think I am an idiot, but the truth is that the correct spelling seems obvious now, but for the life of me I could not come up with it, and the spell check never gave the correct version as an option.

As far as sentence structure and grammar you have a lot more leeway there. I will say, that you are better off is you can write correctly, but a more conversational tone seems to more than suffice and is even preferred by most people.

Now let's get to college. All of the context, referencing sources, taking all sides into consideration, this is all counterproductive and not what people who are looking for real world info on the Internet are looking for.

I am not saying there is no place for all of that; the truth is that level of depth better exist on your website if you are really any kind of expert at all. As for the articles that you submit to article directories and what the people who read them are looking for, the answer is mostly short concise answers that give them the gist of what they want to know, and if they want or need more info or depth, make sure your resource box gets them back to your site so they can get the depth and specifics if they want them.

I wonder if it is too brash to say that articles are the cereal and shampoo samples that give you a chance to really try the product, at least one full serving, or one complete application, but if you want more, you have to go to the website.
